Career - Chess Instructor

Malcolm

Chess Teacher Malcolm is a sessional (visiting) teacher, working at primary and secondary schools around Melbourne.
He instructs students on the finer points of chess.

This involves:
  • recreating and describing historical tournament games,
  • explaining current thinking on chess moves,
  • practical advice on improving one's game,
  • playing chess with the students
  • and discussing their moves and alternative moves.

Malcolm also participates in professional tournaments, playing other high grade players from Australia and worldwide.

Chess is a game which involves visualising moves on the board, which means using strategy and developing spatial skills.

Maths isn't only about numeracy - it is about space and data and thinking in logical steps.
Chess is very mathematical.
