Career - Chess Instructor Malcolm Malcolm is a sessional (visiting) teacher, working at primary and secondary schools around Melbourne. He instructs students on the finer points of chess. This involves: recreating and describing historical tournament games, explaining current thinking on chess moves, practical advice on improving one's game, playing chess with the students, and discussing their moves and alternative moves. Malcolm also participates in professional tournaments, playing other high grade players from Australia and worldwide. Chess is a game which involves visualising moves on the board, which means using strategy and developing spatial skills. Maths isn't only about numeracy - it is about space and data and thinking in logical steps. Chess is very mathematical.
